Oh yeah. I mean, I like all kinds of stuff, but I always keep my Meshuggah playlist handy.

My pedalboard is in my storage closet, but the compression pedal stays hooked up to whatever amp I’m using most. It’s the secret to my power. Without it I am nothing...

Compression is one effect I’ve never tried. I’ve heard mixed opinions on it. Obviously you’re in the pro camp. What’s your reason?

Ever since I was in high school and got to borrow a buddy’s Boss Metal Zone pedal I’ve lusted after one. Not that you have one but the Boss font reminds me to search Craigslist for one.

I don’t hear any metal, but I do hear sweet V8 noises, which are also good.

I use it more as a tool than an effect. I kind of think of it as a noise suppression pedal, helping unlock what the sound should be, as apposed to something to alter the tone. I absolutely love how it smooths things out, especially for high gain stuff. No harsh highs, no muddled lows. Sweep picking in particular is the best example of the pros for me, as the compression lends a much fuller, rounder tone to the high notes that’s more in line with the lower notes.
And then on the clean channel I actually do like using it more as an effects pedal, playing around and getting some seriously crazy sustain, or bass-like *pops* from each note.
The title is a bit clickbaity but the video itself is solid.

I just have a EH Big Muff Pi that was given to me and I pretty much only use it for Hysteria. I’ve considered adding a compressor, but I really don’t know if I need it. Same with most other pedals.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Metal Zone. It’s gets ripped on, but I always liked it.

Got one for $30 on Amazon. Chinese cheapo but great reviews and it sounds awesome! Amazon isn’t working for me right now but respond to this post and I'll see the notification as a reminder tomorrow

Turns out it’s a Noise Gate but the company has other options I believe for similar prices.
